Abstract

This educational experience was conducted within the framework of “Level IV Workshop: Research Practice” of the Education Sciences Degree Program, of the National University of San Luis (UNSL), Argentina. We believe that violence is currently present in educational institutions, however, school only regulates what is considered to violate established norms, meaning it attempts to regulate only observable behaviours, mainly physical violence. We consider that it is necessary to understand the different manifestations of violence in educational institutions, as well as the meanings that teachers attribute to them. In this work, we present two central categories, that emerged from the discourse of the teachers interviewed: “violence” and the “normative system”. Within the first category, two subcategories emerged called “types of violence” and “causes of violence”.
