This paper presents the results of an exploratory study of a qualitative nature that was carried out in Portugal in the first semester of the academic year 2022/2023 and whose aim is twofold: (1) to study in depth the position of university lecturers with regard to inclusion in Higher Education and (2) to find out what best practices these lecturers consider to promote inclusion at this educational level. By means of three open questions posed to 19 teachers, their perspectives on inclusion in Higher Education were obtained. Results show that these lecturers associate inclusion mostly to equal opportunities and to accept and welcome diverse people. Furthermore, participants suggest institutional as well as teaching best practices and highlight several personal characteristics that help teachers to foster inclusion on a day-to-day basis.
