Cuba, Is it a socialist alternative or the way to a market society?
Keywords:
Cuba, socialism, capitalism, crisisAbstract
Since 1989, Cuba's economy went into a recession that was evident through most important macro-economic statistics. This steady decline led the Cuban Government to admit the invariable need to begin a process of reforms that it is officially recognized as an "economic restructuring" or a "special period". The problem is on the limits, which is if these reforms will occur without breaking the threshold of principles and therefore affecting the very essence of the Socialist system. The anti-crisis policies applied in the island through legislative and economic reforms have brought, inside the Cuban model, several changes that opened the debate about the future of it: more Socialism or a dangerous turn towards the worldwide ruling Capitalism.
