Abstract

Considering historical, political and cultural aspects of Chilean society, this discussion article offers an analysis of social injustices in Chile from a critical perspective, considering the notion of institutionalized oppression elaborated by Iris Young. It also justifies that these criteria should be central to ponder in the context of an education that seeks to contribute to social justice. To this end, this article carries out a theoretical analysis of current perspectives existing in the bibliography to understand the concept of social justice. Then, it offers a description of Chilean social and political history up to the present from the category of social justice. Subsequently, it analyses elements present throughout Chile’s social and political history, which allows us to affirm that an appropriate way to analyse social injustices in Chile is from a critical paradigm. This understanding is intended to be a future basis from which to develop educational proposals in order to address the problem of the lack of social justice in Chile.
