Abstract

The first kindergarten in the Normal School in Paraná was created in 1884 and a specific training for kindergarten teachers was implemented. Thus, during the second half of the XIX century and beginnings of the XX century, early childhood education in Argentina was conducted by normal teachers who chose to work in this level of the educational system. This work, which is part of a progress report of the research project PROICO 4-1118 “Teacher training in San Luis. Between the educational expansion and the normalism agony”, intends to explore the teacher training programs of two normal teachers of the city of San Luis who chose early childhood education in the 60s. We emphasize that for some young puntanasteachers, early childhood education was an opportunity to get a job in some institutions and to develop education from the maternal affection, a natural and intuitive condition attributed to women from the Sarmientinolegacy. Interviews of the two normal teachers graduated in 1960 and 1961 from the Normal School “Paula Domínguez de Bazán” were recovered for this analysis.
