LOS HECHOS MORALES Y LA MORALIDAD, MÁS ALLÁ DEL REALISMO

Abstract

The present paper aims at offering a critical assessment of Guillermo Lariguet’s “Realismo moral” [Moral Realism], where the author attempts to offer a characterization of moral realism capable of overcoming some of the limitations exhibited by the main
characterizations of this doctrine available in the philosophical literature. After showing the different ways in which the `ontological objectivity’ of moral facts can be conceived, it will be suggested here that there is in particular one way of characterizing moral realism that should be rejected outright, which basically postulates that moral facts are attitudinally independent in a strict or absolute sense. Having rejected this postulate, the final part of this paper seeks to reflect on what would be the best way to conceive moral facts and morality, whether or not it is compatible with a strictly realist position.
