LA MOTIVACIÓN MORAL DESDE EL REALISMO. ACIERTOS Y TENSIONES CON LA RACIONALIDAD

Abstract

The article takes as its starting point a claim by Lariguet, who argues that the criticism accusing realism of denying morality’s practical character is unfair. From this, the work seeks to explain moral motivation from a realist perspective, without assuming that the internalist approach is the only adequate way to account for motivation. We then evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of realism, focusing on Brink’s theory. Among its strengths, we find that it successfully explains motivation as observed in everyday life, but it struggles to clarify how moral facts generate obligations. We conclude that while some accusations may unfairly target realist motivational theory, the challenge of reconciling practical demands with moral reasons persists.
